No one is "tearing families." Restricts family immigration to just spouses and children under 21. No more uncles, aunts, nephews and nieces. If people want to come they need to on their merits. Think about LPRs who have to wait years on end to even get their spouses in.

No one said CIR failing was good for us because it provided relief for illegals. No jealousy here sir. We wanted CIR to fail because in 'saving' illegals it screwed us. If the illegals took a risk in breaking the law its their burden to bear. Moreover, asking the basic question of why illegals and why not legals should be a part of debate. I believe, our interest is best served by strongly differentiating ourselves from the illegals. Lets do without the socialism.

they fear any partial immigration reforms will harm their political constituents..namely the hispanic voter base.
They will never come onboard for legals..we have to fight our own battle.
So individual constituents on this forums can have personal views..

Secondly there are no "individual constituents" when it comes to Immigration Voice. This is an organization OF, FOR and BY the "EMPLOYMENT BASED LEGAL IMMIGRANTS". We neither support nor oppose rewards or penalties for or against the undocumented workers (illegal immigrants). Individual members can have their own "opinions/biases", but NO individual member can speak on behalf of Immigration Voice on major issues. As per my understanding, ONLY the IV Core team/Board members as a WHOLE can make such decisions.

Well done Mark, I think you presented our case very well.
There are a lot of stereotypes and misunderstandings of the facts around this issue.
It makes me realise just what a disservice those like Lou Dobbs and his ilk do to both the debate over this issue as well at to the future of this country that those like us can only benefit.
Ron Hira though he is wrong on his position can atleast acknowledge the need for more green cards. The extreme right is just fundamentally messed up in their head, and would gladly go back to becoming Hamish in the city!

Namecheck is done on everyone applying for any US visa at consulate. There is a database which i think called a lookout system and if you get a hit than you will go through further checks. It happened in 2004 and she has to pay $85 fee give full fingerprints at Delhi consulate and took about 6 weeks to get cleared.

I guess you won't find much love for labor transfer cases in these forums but AFAIK AC21 has nothing to do with whom the labor was filed for.

If you cannot renew L1, you can go back and work offshore. Remember that GC application is valid even if you are not in country and the process would continue (because GC is for future employment). This option is not bad when the company that sent you on L1 treats you well and you do not want to leave the company. Working at home while your GC is in process appeals to many who want a break from this lengthy and back breaking process.
I am not sure that is entirely true befoer you go and work offshore you will have to convert your 485 (AOS) to Consular procesing ( I dont know if that is possible when your AOS is pending for some time like lets say 2 years or so I think there must be a way to change in the first few months after filing). According to USCIS's interpretation of the backlog the pending applicants from retrogressed countries do not count as the backlog because they can not process those petitions until VISA dates moves further.
I hope once they make this information available on their WEB site or to respond to IV's request to disclose the pending AoS applicants based on country of chargeability and category, we will know how many AoS pending and can judge how long it will take to receive our GCs.

I worked in Delhi before moving to the US, so have some contacts. Last December I touched base with some of my friends from my previous company (big teleco services) and found that it is still not worth moving back - even if you have a home in delhi.
After 7 yrs of work experience, they are still making about 12-15 Lacs (moved up from being an entry level SE to a Project Manager).
Anyways, now days they are very selective in hiring talent - practically a hiring freeze. Also, the days for 30% raises seem to be over, at least for now.
I heard Bangalore is much better.

This is talking about I-140 and not I-485.....
My I-140 filed with TSC is still pending since August 2007. I hope I get a decision ( hopefully positive) by Sep 2009!

The whole thing is written as if June 2007 happened by mistake, I don't buy that.

My son got his FAFSA approved last year. I am on H1 and he is on H4. Your daughter either way on H4 or EAD qualifies for FAFSA. If you have questions, you can call FAFSA directly and they are very helpful.
